******************JOYSTICK CHECK VERSION 3.0***************************** INTRODUCTION Making a program to check the game port and joystick is quite elementary. However, creating a program to check all possible dynamic parameters becomes a bit more challenging. The Joystick Check program is a invaluable tool, best used for checking a Joystick or Joystick/Game Port combination prior to purchase. I've bought several bogus joystick over the past two years. If only I had this utility earlier, I could have saved a lot of money. Fortunately, I did have my beta version when I purchased my last stick (Gravis). I would assume that there are are comparable units on the market, but I trust the quality and reputation of the Gravis unit. I don't think it's fair to mention the units that Ideemed unacceptable by this utility, but I will mention that you get what you pay for. So, if you want your games to work, you got to spend the extra bucks. There are no shortcuts. ABOUT THIS PROGRAM The first version of this utility came out in 1987. It wasn't practical nor was it reliable. Shortly afterwards I released version 2 and it too stunk. 3 years later I decided to do one last program in Microsoft's Quick BASIC 4.5 before continuing all my efforts towards C. This adaptation was released as version 3.0. I was in too much of a hurry to release it and consequently a few typos and ommisions were overlooked. I corrected most of these screw-ups in this recent version, v 3.01. Although, most C programmer thinks basic stinks, it's just because they are jealous because C has to rely on extensive libraries to make it similar to BASIC. I use MS BASIC primarily for creating test programs and find it to be much more maintainable then C. However, C has come a long way in the last 4 years or so, and I think it might be ready now for serious implementation as a test language. My prototype version of this program is made in C. Surprisingly, the C version is not much faster, but is much smaller in executable size. Eventually I plan to release this version, but not in the near future. So don't hold your breath for version 4. LIABILITY There is no liability, because this is merely Scumware. Remember You get what you pay for. Incidently, if you paid for this program you got ripped off.
